Begonia grandis 'Red Undies'

These tuberous begonias are very hardy and easy in the semi shaded parts of the garden. To 40cm tall they have pink flowers in July right through to October and are dormant over winter, emerging in early May. They contibute foliage over most of the growing season and flowers when 'little else is a doing' should we say. Suprisingly tolerant of dry soils. Red undies refers to the underneath of the corrugated green leaves which are red.

Begonia grandis 'Snowpop'

Begonia grandis subsp. sinensis is a more compact selection than the typical subsp evansiana,. Smaller foliage and earlier flowering makes for a good garden plant. This white form is long flowering - July till the frost and has attatctive netted lower surace to the leaves. Will take dryish shade onec established.

A short tuberous deciduous species/variety from Japan. With rounded hairy mat green leaves and separate stalks with masses of white flowers. A short species that I considered borderline hardy, but after being forgotten about in the 22-23 winter and being frozen solid in pots for a couple weeks or more they emerged in mid Spring as normal.
